Shocking footage has emerged showing a huge slip tumbling onto a major North Island road, barely missing nearby traffic.
The footage, which was shared by the Thames-Coromandel District Council, shows a mass of dirt and a tree falling onto State Highway 25 between Waiomu and Ruamahunga.
Waka Kotahi said the road is closed while contractors clear the slip.
In the footage, several onlookers can be seen watching as the hillside crumbles in front of their eyes.
It comes after the upper North island was battered by heavy rain, flooding and thunderstorms for the past several days.
