Thieves smash into Auckland supermarket as staff stock shelves, liquor store ram-raided

A supermarket and a liquor store in Auckland have been targeted by thieves in early morning raids. 

Police said they responded to reports of a burglary at Countdown on Hillsborough Road in Lynfield just before 1am.

Police confirmed a small number of staff members were working inside the store at the time of the burglary with Countdown saying the "safety and wellbeing" of its team and community is "our absolute priority".

Police said offenders took multiple items before fleeing from the scene in a vehicle.

"Police are following positive lines of enquiry to locate those responsible," a police said.

"Anyone with footage or information that may assist is asked to contact Police via our 105 phone service, quoting job number P053966928."

Footage from the scene showed smashed cash registers and shattered glass. 

Meanwhile, about an hour later, an Auckland liquor store was ram-raided. 

Police said they're investigating a burglary at the Liquor Centre on View Road in Wairau Valley shortly before 2:30am on Wednesday.

"At this stage, our enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances, including what was taken and who is responsible," a police spokesperson said.
