There are 11,171 new community cases of COVID-19 and a further 24 virus-related deaths over the past week, the Ministry of Health has revealed.
The Health Ministry gave the update, which covers the seven-day period from Monday, March 13 to Sunday, March 19, on Monday.
The ages of those who died were three in their 60s, five in their 70s, nine in their 80s, and seven aged over 90.
The Ministry of Health said as of midnight on Sunday, 200 people are in hospital with the virus, eight of whom is in intensive care.
The total number of people whose deaths are attributed to COVID-19 is now 2586.
Overall, New Zealand has reported over 2.2 million COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began.
One of the new cases is National Party leader Christopher Luxon who tested positive for COVID last Monday.
Last week the Health Ministry reported 11,544 new community cases, 22 virus-related deaths, 190 people in hospital, and five in ICU.
