A 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck the Kermadec Islands region north of New Zealand on Thursday, prompting a tsunami warning by the US Tsunami Warning System.
The earthquake was estimated to be at a depth of 10km and hit just after 2pm, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
NZ Civil Defence said there is no tsunami risk for New Zealand after the quake.
"There is no tsunami threat to New Zealand following the M7.0 earthquake in the Southern Kermadec Islands. Remember, if an earthquake is long or strong, get gone," it said in a statement.
