A man has been arrested in relation to a shipment of methamphetamine concealed in beer cans.
Detective Inspector Glenn Baldwin said in a statement on Thursday, a man was arrested at Auckland Airport on March 10.
"This man a 30-year-old, has been charged with supplying methamphetamine and remains before the Auckland District Court."
Det Insp Baldwin said police also executed a search warrant at a property in Auckland's Manukau in relation to the investigation.
"Inside this location, we have found a significant quantity of methamphetamine concealed amongst a large shipment of 'Honey Bear House Beer' cans," Det Insp Baldwin said.
He said police were aware the beer cans they found were not sold in New Zealand.
"Our investigation team, together with partners, are continuing to analyse the seizure and there are still forensic enquiries being made into the shipment," Det Insp Baldwin said.
"While we cannot currently provide a final figure, it is very clear that this consignment of drugs would have caused extensive social harm had it gone on to be sold and distributed within our communities."
Police are also investigating a man's death which may be linked to the beer laced with methamphetamine.
Aiden Sagala died in Auckland Hospital earlier this month.
Det Insp Baldwin said it was established Sagala wasn't "involved in any way with the importation or distribution of beer cans containing methamphetamine".
He said it is still an active investigation and " our team is working to link further individuals to this shipment and hold them accountable."
Police said they cannot rule out further arrests as the investigation is ongoing.
"Police advise anyone who may still have one of these 'Honey Bear House Beer' cans to not drink it and to contact Police immediately by phoning our 105 phone service quoting the file number 230310/6793."
