Police have named the man who died after shooting at officers in west Auckland's Henderson on Friday.
He was David Lolie Junior Fononga, aged 26, of Auckland.
Police said investigations into the shooting on Friday are ongoing.
At 10am on Friday morning, Fononga attempted to rob a Henderson Valley petrol station where police said a "firearm has been discharged".
Waitematā District Commander Superintendent Naila Hassan said police "immediately" responded and tracked his vehicle, a black BMW.
Just after 10:33am, the vehicle returned to the scene and a firearm was presented at police staff.
Police said Fononga then drove away and fired shots at them at the intersection of Forrest Hill Road and Pine Avenue. The Police Eagle Helicopter tracked his driving around the Henderson area where he was seen acting erratically and firing on multiple occasions at police staff.
Supt Hassan said police fired back at the offender on more than one occasion.
Fononga then drove to the Henderson police station where he exited his vehicle holding a firearm and was "challenged by armed police".
After he "continued to brandish" his weapon police shot Fononga, and he was taken to hospital in a critical condition. He died later on Friday.
In a statement on Tuesday, Supt Hassan said police are asking anyone who has images, videos, dash cam footage or CCTV footage of the shooting to come forward.
