Members of the local community have rallied around a North Shore primary school after a thief broke in and stole the proceeds of a fun run.
Beach Haven Primary School held the fun run on Wednesday evening to raise money for a year six camp, but it was all stolen in the overnight raid.
The school posted a picture of the alleged thief on its Facebook page saying they were "angry and disappointed after such a fantastic community event."
Later on Thursday they posted a message of thanks to the "amazing community" saying they had been inundated with messages and donations.
The school posted details of how people can donate on their Facebook page.
Police said they were investigating the incident and had notification of an alarm activation at a North Shore school at 12.18am.
"A male offender has gained entry to the school a short time earlier by breaking a window, and has stolen an unconfirmed amount of cash.
"He has left the scene before police have arrived, and inquiries into this incident are ongoing."
