Aotearoa's newest burger chain (yes, another one) has just opened in Auckland, and it's getting mixed reviews already.

Burger chain Wahlburgers' newest restaurant opened on Wednesday to keen burger fans queuing along Princes Wharf, in the heart of Tāmaki Makaurau.

So what's with the mixed reviews?

The 'chef-inspired menu' seems to have put some Kiwis off completely with an average rating of just 2.2 stars on Google reviews, out of 5 stars.

"Nothing special here, I don't understand," said one disappointed customer who gave 1 star.

"I'm never gonna [sic] get that time and money back. 2 hour wait (even though the place was empty), wrong food, tiny overpriced portions," another said.

A reviewer who gave a mediocre 3 stars wrote "[the] waiting staff were friendly and outshone the food which was average."

A Local Guide on Google reviews - a person who writes reviews often - said "I try not to give negative reviews but waiting an hour and a half for an average burger that is way overpriced is just not good enough."

Twelve years ago US actor Mark Wahlburg started the business with two of his brothers, despite there already being a million burger options out there.

A more positive 4-star review read "[it] was a nice family experience, nice vicinity interior."

One glowing 5-star review said "juicy burger. I had a beef burger with pepper jack cheese and jalapeños with bacon added to it. The burger itself was very good."

Facebook's review average sits at 3.7 stars for Wahlburgers, but that figure includes reviews from restaurants worldwide.

One review from two hours ago said "magnificent restaurant, staff are super friendly, food is delicious, you can tell it has been blessed by Jesus."

So just like every other burger joint, they offer 'delicious burgers' made from 'high-quality ingredients', but still nothing unique.

At least they'll be using all locally-grown and produced ingredients.

Two more Wahburgers restaurants are set to open later this year, in Tauranga and Tāhuna/Queenstown.
