Section of Transmission Gully fully reopens after fuel tanker crash forces closure for 10 hours

Waka Kotahi has fully reopened the earlier closed section of Transmission Gully after a fuel tanker crash on Tuesday morning.

A spokesperson for Waka Kotahi said it appreciates the crash between Pāuatahanui and Paekākāriki caused delays for those travelling between Wellington and Kāpiti Coast.

"We want to thank drivers for their patience and understanding while emergency services and contractors have worked hard to reopen the highway."

Waka Kotahi is warning of travel delays as the reopening of the northbound lanes coincided with the afternoon commute and peak traffic times.

"Drivers are asked to take care when using the highway."

Several crews were dispatched on Tuesday morning to a "significant fuel spill" on Transmission Gully following a crash between the fuel tanker and another vehicle.

"Seven fire trucks, including a Command Unit/Hazardous Materials Unit, remain in place, with fresh crews relieving those who first attended the scene," FENZ said.

A police spokesperson earlier told Newshub there were no reports of injuries.
