Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man was founded dead in a car in Canterbury.
Police were called to a Tyler Street address in Rangiora at 7:40pm Monday, and located the man inside a vehicle at the address.
Detective Inspector Joel Syme said in a statement work is currently underway to formally identify the victim.
"Until that identification process is complete, Police will not be in a position to provide further details regarding the victim," Det Insp Syme said.
However, Stuff is reporting the car at the crime scene is linked to 41-year-old father of three Richard Leman.
Leman has been missing since April 11. He was last seen at the Lilly Brook Shops in Rangiora, a town located just north of Christchurch.
"He may look rough and tough but he is a big baby at heart and a mummy's boy, he loves his 3 sons, they mean the world to him as does his Mum and Dad, brother, sisters, nieces and nephews," his sister posted on a Givealittle page.
"Our little brother Richard has the kindest heart, loves his children, loves his family and would do anything to help others. We just want him home."
Cordons remain in place at the address and residents can expect to see a continued police presence in the area in the coming days.
