A man whose naked body was reportedly found in the backyard of his Christchurch home surrounded by dogs died in circumstances not thought to be suspicious, police said on Thursday.
Rikiana Hirawani, 33, was found dead at a property in Gilberthorpes Rd, Hei Hei on Tuesday. Witnesses told Stuff they saw an unclothed body as well as several dogs.
"Following a post-mortem examination, the death is not being treated as suspicious and will be referred to the coroner," said Det Snr Sgt Colin Baillie.
He said an investigation to work out what happened in the lead-up to Hirawani's death was ongoing.
"Cordons around the property will be removed this afternoon when the scene examination has been completed."
Police offered their condolences to Hirawani's family.
Baillie also thanked Gilberthorpes Rd residents "for their understanding and assistance" while officers undertook their investigations.
