Police have discovered a body at a Palmerston North property after reports an "unknown substance" was found on Tuesday.
Police were called to Palmerston North's Rangitikei St at about 10:30am.
Several nearby properties were evacuated and the road was closed as a precaution, a police spokesperson told Newshub.
"A body was located at the address and the death will be referred to the Coroner," they added.
Cordons have since been lifted and the road has reopened.
