Police arrest four Restore Passenger Rail protesters

Police have arrested and charged four Restore Passenger Rail protesters following disruptive action on Wellington's SH1 at the Terrace off-ramp. 

In a statement, a police spokesperson said staff were called to the off-ramp at about 8am on Thursday morning after four people blocked traffic after sitting on the road.

After about 25 minutes of protest action, police took four people into custody.

"Those arrested are four women, aged 19, 67, 73 and 74."

The foursome is due to appear in the Wellington District Court on Thursday afternoon on charges of endangering transport and breaching bail conditions.

"We will not allow our government's criminal negligence to lead us into societal collapse," said Restore Passenger Rail spokesperson James Cockle.

Police said those planning peaceful protests to consider the safety and the safety of others.

"Police will not hesitate to remove and prosecute anyone undertaking dangerous actions."
