The sky put on a spectacular show for Nelson on Easter Monday with many locals capturing lightning strikes on camera.
Footage provided to Newshub from locals scattered across Nelson shows massive bright lightning strikes buzzing through the sky.
The pitch black sky was lit up by the sharp glowing lightning as it struck across the sky, projecting short glimpses of light across the town.
Nelson wasn't the only region that got to experience the bright lights - the capital saw lightning strikes throughout Monday night and into Tuesday morning too.
And MetService says there could be more to come.
In a tweet on Tuesday afternoon, MetService said lightning strikes around the North Island are mostly over the sea "for now".
"But a large chunk of you should expect a stormy afternoon and evening."
MetService warns of strong winds, localised downpours, thunder, lightning and hail on the west coast and the top of the North Island.
Much of these are under MetService's severe thunderstorm watch, with the watch reaching from Taranaki up to Auckland.
