Building inspections will get underway in Auckland on Monday after a tornado tore through the east of the city, ripping roofs off houses.
The tornado struck the suburb of East Tamaki late on Sunday night, leaving a trail of destruction.
Officials said it did not appear anyone was injured.
"East Auckland will be waking to see the full impact of last night's tornado," Civil Defence officials said in an update on Monday morning.
"Our Civil Defence centre remains open this morning at Howick Leisure Centre for anyone whose home was affected [and] needs our help, including a hot cup of tea.
"Auckland Council's building inspections team will be visiting the area later this morning - if you think you need a building assessment, you can contact the council on 09 301 0101."
Severe weather has swept across Auckland multiple times this year already. The Super City was impacted by Cyclone Gabrielle in February and widespread flooding in January.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) said crews helped homeowners put tarpaulins over damaged roofs overnight.
"None of the properties assessed so far has lost a whole roof but many properties have lost tiles and windows or been damaged by falling trees. There have been no reports of injury," FENZ said in a statement early on Monday.
Most of the damage happened on 11 streets between Golflands and East Tamaki, FENZ said.
It appears the severe weather has now moved away from Auckland but MetService is warning of wild conditions further down the country on Monday.
"A large complex trough moving eastwards over the Tasman Sea is expected to move over New Zealand during Monday and Tuesday," the forecaster said.
"There are orange heavy rain warnings for Mt Taranaki and northwest Tasman. A heavy rain watch for Richmond and Bryant Ranges including the Rai Valley has been upgraded to an orange warning.
"Heavy rain watches are also in force for Westland, the Tararua Range and the eastern Bay of Plenty ranges."
People were advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts, MetService said.
