Wellington Police have named the fourth victim of the Loafers Lodge fire in Newtown last week.

The fourth victim has been identified as 67-year-old Kenneth Barnard.

Police said their sincere condolences are with Barnard's whanau and friends. In a statement via police, his family said he was a "kindly man" who was adored by his nephews and nieces.

"Kenneth was our brother, he was a funny little kid, a kindly boy who became a kindly man as he grew up," his family said.

"His nephews and nieces adored him. His phone calls were always caring, and he was very patient when teased, which some of us did every time the opportunity presented itself.

"Rest in Peace dear Brother, we will really miss you."

Earlier in the week police formally identified three other victims from the tragedy. The first was revealed as Michael Wahrlich, age 67, of Wellington.

An investigation into the fire is ongoing.
