One person is seriously injured and Wellington's Rimutaka Hill is closed following a crash on Wednesday morning.
Waka Kotahi said emergency services were called to the scene at about 6:30am on Wednesday.
"The crash has blocked both lanes. Emergency services and contractors are at the scene," said a spokesperson for the transport agency.
A police spokesperson said initial indications suggest at least one person has been seriously injured as a result.
Morning commuters are warned of "significant delays". Waka Kotahi said it's unclear when the closed section of State Highway 2 between Kaitoke and Featherston will reopen.
A Wellington Free Ambulance (WFA) spokesperson confirmed WFA attended the crash but didn't provide any further detail.
