It's been another busy night for police on the North Shore and in Hamilton, with officers arresting a string of people for burglaries and fleeing officers.
The first burglary occurred at around 3:15am when a group of seven people broke into a supermarket in Long Bay on the North Shore.
Waitematā East Area Commander Insp Stefan Sagar said the thieves stole items from the store before fleeing the area in two stolen vehicles.
"As our staff were in the process of responding to the area, the police eagle helicopter has sighted these vehicles on Beach Rd in Torbay."
One of the vehicles was then spotted ram-raiding a petrol station, with officers racing to respond.
Sagar said the arrival of officers disrupted the group of young thieves and they fled in one of the vehicles.
"This vehicle failed to stop for police and was monitored as it travelled southbound. Spikes were successfully deployed with the vehicle coming to a stop on the Southern Motorway near Mt Wellington."
All seven occupants, who were aged between 15 and 17, were taken into custody, Sagar said.
Three of the teenagers will be facing charges, with the remainder being referred to Youth Aid.
"This is another example of our staff responding and apprehending those who are committing offending against businesses in our communities," Sagar said.
"Police continue to have no tolerance for this sort of offending and we will utilise all measures available to us to hold those committing this harm to account."
Officers will conduct a scene examination at the supermarket and petrol station, Sagar said.
Driver of stolen vehicle crashes into bus
In Hamilton, two people were injured after crashing a stolen vehicle head-on into a bus on Tuesday evening.
Police said officers observed the operator of the stolen vehicle driving dangerously at about 8:45pm and deployed spikes at Pembroke and Ruakiwi Rd.
The driver attempted to manoeuvre around the spikes but, in doing so, crashed into a bus.
Two of the three people in the stolen vehicle received minor and moderate injuries.
Police said there were no injuries to anyone on the bus.
Investigations remain ongoing, police said.
The crimes unfolded after police this week revealed its fleeing driver policy was being refreshed.
