Wild weather is lashing large swathes of New Zealand, with a state of local emergency declared for Auckland as the Super City battles flooding and significant rainfall.

Meanwhile, Aucklanders have been warned to expect severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, strong winds and flash flooding - with floodwaters already affecting a number of areas - as an active front moves across the region on Tuesday afternoon and into the evening.
