Three people were injured after a man attacked diners at three different restaurants on Auckland's North Shore on Monday night.
The accused attacker has been remanded in custody.
Police were called to the scene in Albany at around 9pm after several patrons at three Asian-style restaurants were attacked as they dined.
"We locked the door. Put a table behind the door and I did first aid for the guy on the floor. He was fully unconscious. Not moving, no noise, pouring blood," a witness said.
Bloody napkins and abandoned meals could be seen where, just moments earlier, diners were enjoying their food.
The accused appeared at the North Shore District Court on Tuesday, charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Newshub can't report any identifying factors of the victim, nor can we report any details that could be used as evidence in a trial.
Newshub spoke to witnesses at the scene, but the Community Magistrate has suppressed witness identities from being reported.
Business North Harbour has been in touch with the affected businesses.
"Like everyone, they're really shocked about what happened last night," said Kevin O'Leary, general manager of Business North Harbour.
They're increasing security for the area on Tuesday night.
"What we've managed to do is increase presence of security patrols from this evening in the area," O'Leary said. "Basically just offering support to all the businesses, not just those that were involved last night."
A gesture to help the North Shore community feel safe after what was expected to be a quiet Monday night.
