A major Auckland motorway project from Pūhoi to Warkworth officially opened for the first time on Monday morning.
State Highway 1 Pūhoi to Warkworth, Ara Tūhono motorway, north of Auckland opened to all traffic on Monday following delays in the project last year.
The 18.5km route is expected to provide a safer, more reliable and resilient route for motorists.
Prime Minister Chris Hipkins opened the motorway on Friday.
In a tweet, Waka Kotahin said the southbound on-ramp Pūhoi is now closed as a result of the new motorway.
"Please access the new SH1 motorway via Pukerito roundabout, north of Warkworth or follow free route south via Orewa."
The motorway was budgeted to cost $877.5, Waka Kotahi has not yet said if the costs have run over.
