The man charged in relation to the death of Kaikohe resident Linda Woods can now be named.
He is Terrance Lowe Kiro.
The 52-year-old man appeared at the High Court in Whangārei on Friday morning and entered not guilty pleas to manslaughter, burglary and two counts of aggravated assault.
Catherine Cull, Kiro's lawyer, didn't file an application to continue name suppression and therefore the identity of the man can be revealed.
During the court proceedings, Kiro kept his head bowed and stared at the floor.
Police allege the home invasion started as a sexually motivated burglary on the night of Thursday, June 1 at the Taraire St property, where Woods lived with four generations of her whānau - who were all female.
The alleged offender was found hiding in one of the bedrooms of the home, police said.
A struggle between the occupants and the intruder resulted in Woods being seriously injured.
Despite efforts from emergency services, Woods, a 71-year-old dialysis patient, died at the scene.
Justice Brewer set a trial date for June 9, 2025.
