A pilot and two passengers have survived a crash landing after their helicopter's engine failed near Queenstown.
Rescue Coordination Centre (RCCNZ) said it responded to the reported engine failure near Glenorchy on Thursday morning after receiving a distress beacon alert and mayday call at 9:51am.
The pilot, who had two passengers on board, was able to land the helicopter with only minor damage to the aircraft. All three people aboard the aircraft walked away unscathed.
RCCNZ deployed two Queenstown-based rescue helicopters to the scene. A separate commercial helicopter also responded to the mayday call.
St John said in a statement they sent one helicopter to the scene and FENZ said they were alerted to it but then stood down.
The people who were on board the helicopter will be taken to Queenstown for assessment.
