Two police officers have been taken to hospital after a serious crash between a bus and police car in central Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland on Friday afternoon.
The crash happened at the intersection of Tangihua Street and Beach Road at about 3:20pm.
Acting Inspector Greg Brand from Auckland City Police said two officers were injured in the crash while on their way to a callout.
"The Police vehicle entered the intersection at low speed, under lights and sirens, when the collision with a bus occurred," Insp Brand said.
One officer has been transported to Auckland City Hospital with serious injuries, but those are "not currently thought to be life-threatening", Insp Brand added.
The other officer has also been taken to hospital, but with moderate injuries.
Emergency services could be seen checking on the bus occupants at the scene, with at least one taken to hospital too.
"I would like to acknowledge the members of the public who immediately came to our officers' aid and assisted at the scene," said Insp Brand.
The two police staff involved will have wrap-around support in place, he added.
The serious crash unit is investigating.
