Their popularity grew during the COVID lockdown and now many Kiwi households regularly cook meals from one of the many meal kits available, but which one is the most popular?
Canster has conducted a survey which shows which self-cook food bag is a favourite with Kiwis.
Bargain Box, My Food Bag and Hello Fresh are well known amongst many households across New Zealand, but one box has stood out for the third year in a row, according to Canstar Blue.
The three meal kit delivery services were compared on Satisfaction, Customer Service, Delivery in Reliability and Timing, and Flexibility of Contract.
They were also compared on Freshness, Taste, Value, and Variety.
Bargain Box
Bargain Box came out first in the survey, with five-star ratings for overall satisfaction and great value for money.
The ratings were also five stars for taste, flexibility and reliability of its delivery.
Not far behind, customer service, freshness of food, and a variety of recipes were at four stars.
My Food Bag
Despite rounding up in 2nd place, My Food Bag saw five stars in variety of meals, freshness of food, and customer service.
With four stars in satisfaction, value, taste, flexibility, and reliability.
Hello Fresh
And last, but potentially not least in the eyes of some loyal Hello Fresh'ers, the rating wasn't too impressive, with stars sitting quite low.
The highest number of star ratings sitting at four, in taste and reliability, with all other categories at just three stars.
It's now the third year in a row that Bargain Box has won the Canstar award for Most Satisfied Customers Meal Kit Delivery, and Canstar's General Manager, Jose George is pleased with the outcome.
"Bargain Box has carved out a real niche for itself, and consumers appreciate it," he said.
"Congratulations to the team for this hat-trick of wins".
