A mysterious "large bang" shook many north Canterbury residents on Tuesday morning.
Residents flocked to social media to report hearing and feeling the sound they are describing as a "sonic boom" or "explosion".

Police said they conducted an investigation in Woodend after receiving multiple reports of a "loud bang" at around 8:45am Tuesday.
"Enquiries were conducted in an attempt to locate the origin of a loud bang," a police spokesperson said.
"Police did not locate anything that may have caused the noise and have left the area."
Any information regarding what caused this noise in the area are asked to contact Police on 105.
There have been no earthquakes reported in the area on GeoNet.
