A manhunt is underway for a patched gang member after a woman was kidnapped and assaulted numerous times before escaping three weeks later.
Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of 33-year-old Carlos Harris, who also goes by the name of 'C-Los Duzit'.
Harris is a patched member of the Nomads Gang and has distinctive tattoos on both his head and cheeks, police said.
It comes after a woman was kidnapped from a house in the Auckland suburb of Birkenhead on June 12.
Detective Senior Sergeant Nick Poland of Waitematā said a missing person's report was filed on June 27.
"Our enquiries have since established the victim was taken by a group of offenders from an address in Birkenhead on Wednesday June 12," Poland said.
"We believe she was then transported to an address in west Auckland where she has been subjected to numerous assaults, before being taken to Northland."
Police conducted several search warrants across Waitematā and Northland last week as they continued to search for the missing woman.
Last Thursday, she managed to escape from a vehicle parked in Tikipunga, Whangārei, and sought help from a nearby ambulance.
The woman received medical attention for injuries, which were not life-threatening. Police said she was subjected to a "horrific ordeal".
Police conducted further search warrants at two properties in Whangārei last Thursday and a scene examination found a gun at one of the houses.
Poland acknowledged the kidnapping is "confronting" and said people will "understandably be feeling concerned by what has occurred". He said police don't believe it was a random attack.
"Support is in place for the victim however we must stress the importance of her safety - and as such we are not in a position to release further details around her identity at this stage."
