A shooter has been killed after armed law enforcement officers swarmed Auckland's Commercial Bay on Thursday morning, police have confirmed.
Two other people have also been killed, police said. Police detailed the shooter's movements through Commercial Bay, before he was found dead.
After opening fire earlier on Thursday morning, the shooter made his way through Commercial Bay.
Police engaged with the shooter, who contained himself within an elevator shaft, until he was found dead shortly after.
St John Ambulance treated three patients for serious injuries, and another three for moderate injuries.
Newshub understands the shooter was a 24-year-old man working at Commercial Bay who took a shotgun into his workplace.
Police added that an investigation will take place, while reassuring there is no further threat to the public.
"What has unfolded is understandably alarming and we are reassuring the public that this incident has been contained and is an isolated incident," the police statement continued.
"We can also advise that this is not a national security risk. Police are now commencing an investigation into what has occurred this morning.
"Cordons remain in place and we are continuing to ask the public to stay away from the area as our work continues.
"Updates will continue to be provided this morning and Police will also be fronting an update to media this afternoon."
Just after 8am, gunshots were heard at the Commercial Bay shopping precinct before a man was carried from the scene and treated by medics.
AM reporter Emma Olsen said police badges were visible on the injured man.
Prime Minister Chris Hipkins has cancelled a planned trip to Hamilton and will return to the Beehive to be briefed on the incident.
