Armed police guarded Middlemore Hospital in Auckland overnight.
A police spokesperson told Newshub the police presence at Middlemore Hospital overnight relates to an ongoing investigation.
Newshub understands a person was taken to Middlemore Hospital at just 6pm after being shot.
"Police are making enquiries after a person presented at Middlemore Hospital with a gunshot wound yesterday [Saturday]," a police spokesperson said.
"Police are working to establish whether this person was involved in the Point England incident."
It comes after police launched a homicide investigation after a man died following an incident in an Auckland reserve on Saturday afternoon.
Police said they were called to Taurima Reserve in Point England after several reports of disorder and sounds of gunshots.
After this, a man arrived at Middlemore Hospital in a critical condition with gunshot wounds. He later died of his injuries.
Police launched a homicide investigation and believe the people involved are known to each other and it was an isolated incident.
Police said there is no ongoing risk to the wider public but ask anyone who was in the immediate area at the time to get in contact with them.
"You can call us via 105 or provide information online at https://www.police.govt.nz/use-105, using Update My Report. Please reference job number P05557214," said Detective Senior Sergeant Steve Salton, Auckland City CIB.
"Information can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111."
The Point England community will notice a greater Police presence while investigations continue.
This comes after a homicide investigation was launched on Friday after a victim of the Queen Street shootings died in hospital. Police are seeking 24-year-old Dariush Talagi and warn he is "considered dangerous".
