A man is facing charges after becoming violent and smashing a window at a north Auckland hotel overnight.

Police were called to the Albany Executive Motor Inn on Corinthian Drive in Albany around 11:40pm after property was damaged.

Police say the man, who appeared drunk, was tasered before being taken into custody after he was aggressive toward officers and members of the public.

The 21-year-old was treated for minor injuries as a result of the disorder.

A worker at the hotel told Newshub the man became too drunk after checking in to the hotel for one night.

He is due to appear in the North Shore District Court on Thursday, charged with wilful damage and assault.
