One person is dead and another missing after they were swept off the rocks at Raglan's Papanui Point on Saturday morning.
Police say the pair were fishing in the area and were reported to be in the water at about 8:45am.
Police, Westpac Rescue Helicopter, Raglan Surf lifesavers, a fixed-wing plane and Coastguard were deployed to the area.
One person has been found dead, but searchers were unable to find the missing person, who remains in the water.
"Further searching will take place along the shoreline at lowtide and will be ongoing," a police spokesperson said.
"Police extend their sympathies to the family of the deceased and an investigation remains ongoing."
Papanui Point is notorious for its danger and has claimed more than 30 lives.
