A person is in custody after attempting to flee the scene of a two-vehicle crash that caused lengthy delays in Auckland.
Two cars crashed on the northwestern motorway at 10:42am on Monday, police said. One person has attempted to flee one of the vehicles, but they have since been taken into custody.
A witness to the crash said they "saw a person run across the other side of the motorway into oncoming traffic", according to the NZ Herald.
No serious injuries have been reported.
There were lengthy delays earlier while the crash was cleared. Waka Kotahi said the two right-hand lanes going north on State Highway 16 were blocked at the Te Atatu Road exit. It affected traffic travelling in both directions.
A photo posted by Waka Kotahi showed debris across the road and a white ute that had hit a red car.
