Wairarapa police have widened their search in Mount Holdsworth for missing man Michael MacGregor as their operation enters its fourth day.

MacGregor, or Mikey Namana, was last seen at the Rocky Lookout at around 12:30pm on Monday where he failed to return from a walk.

But efforts to find MacGregor so far have failed.

On Friday a police spokesperson said Police Search and Rescue, Land Search and Rescue volunteers and specialist canyoning search and rescue teams will focus on the Atiwhakatu Stream.

"Ground search teams will be searching near the Atiwhakatu Stream, and the canyoning team will be searching the water."

Police are asking members of the public to avoid entering the Atiwhakatu Stream while search and rescue teams are scanning the area.

"While they may have the best intentions, unauthorised people in the stream place both themselves and the specialists at risk."

Police are continuing to appeal for information that may help police in finding MacGregor.

Those with information can contraction police on 105 P0555229698.
