Video captured by a resident in an apartment block above Auckland's Queen Street shows the aftermath of Thursday night's shooting.
Two people were rushed to hospital in critical condition after one was shot in the head, and the other in the abdomen, at about 11:30pm.
One is now in a stable condition, while the other remains critical.
The video shows several armed police officers and a paramedic surrounding a person on the ground.
Another person can be seen lying motionless nearby, with a knocked-over Lime scooter sitting right beside them.
Members of the public were casually walking around in the foreground near the intersection of Queen and Fort Streets as the incident was unfolding.
On Friday afternoon, Auckland CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Bolton "reassured the public that they can continue to come into the CBD". He said the incident is isolated.
Officers swarmed the area after a small group was reportedly fighting - with one of them taking out a gun and opening fire.
Up to four shots may have been fired, Snr Sgt Bolton added.
Police said they're now going through CCTV footage to hunt the suspected shooter, who allegedly escaped on a Lime Scooter - wearing red and black pants and a red hat.
Several TikTok users also posted videos of the scene.
