Weather: Traffic disruption on Harbour Bridge, crash closes part of major road

Auckland motorists face disruption on Monday morning with lane changes in place on the Harbour Bridge, while a crash has closed part of a major road.

Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency announced that due to predicted strong wind gusts the Harbour Bridge will be operating with four lanes in each direction during Monday morning's peak travel period.

"Expect delays. Take extra care especially if you are in a lighter or high-sided vehicle," Waka Kotahi said.

A section of Manukau Rd between Pah Rd and Empire Rd is also closed because of a crash.

"Pass with care and expect delays for all traffic, including bus services, through this area until cleared," Auckland Transport said.

Police said two people have been taken to hospital following the crash - one is in a critical condition and the other is seriously injured.

"Manukau Road between Pah Road and Banff Avenue has been closed and diversions are in place," a police spokesperson said.

It comes as MetService warns about a strong south-to-southwest flow, which is expected to develop over the North Island on Monday.

This has seen MetService issue a strong wind watch for Northland, Auckland including the Great Barrier Island and the Coromandel Peninsula.

The watch is in place from 8am until 4pm on Monday.

The forecasting agency warns southwest winds may approach severe gale in exposed places.

A strong wind watch is also in place for coastal parts of Gisborne, Hawke's Bay north and east of Wairoa from 7pm on Monday until 10am on Tuesday.

The Capital is also in the firing line with a strong wind watch in place from 9am until 9pm on Monday.

A road snowfall warning is in place for some of the South Island's most iconic roads.

The warning is in place for Lewis Pass (SH7), Arthur's Pass (SH73), Porters Pass (SH73), Lindis Pass (SH8) and Crown Range Rd.
