A cyber attack is affecting parts of Auckland Transport's (AT) HOP card system on Thursday.

However, the agency said public transport is running as normal.

People can still catch buses, trains and ferries while AT works on a solution, it said in a statement.

"At this point in time, we believe the incident is isolated to one part of our system and that no personal or financial data has been compromised."

The services currently unavailable are:

  • Online account top-ups
  • MyAT HOP website services
  • Eftpos/credit card transactions
  • AT HOP retailers cannot top-up HOP cards or load concessions.

The services still available are:

  • Existing auto top-ups, but payments are delayed
  • Ticket and top-up machines (cash only)
  • Customer service centres, with limited functionality

AT said the full restoration of services may not happen until early next week.

"Expert partners" are helping to investigate the problem, the agency said.

More details to come.
