Controversial activist Posie Parker cancels NZ event due to safety concerns

Activist Posie Parker has cancelled her New Zealand event due to safety concerns after her last rally saw a clash between her supporters and the Rainbow community.

The UK woman, whose real name is Kellie-Jay Keen Minshull, became infamous after she held a rally in Auckland's Albert Park in March as part of her Let Women Speak tour.

During the protest, she was doused in tomato juice and forced to abandon her speech as a larger counter-protest in support of transgender people showed up.

But despite saying she felt unsafe in New Zealand, Parker had organised another rally in Auckland next week.

However, in a new audio stream posted to social media, she said she had cancelled the event because her family believed it wasn't safe. She also said she doesn't believe New Zealand Police will keep her safe.

"I talked to my family yesterday, they have asked me not to go," she said. "I feel terrible and I thought about this a lot overnight, but once my family said, 'No, you can't go', then I can't really justify going."

Parker describes herself as a "women's rights activist". She said she advocates for women who she claims are an "adult human female" not "penises in dresses".

Parker's key advocacy is speaking up against transgender people being in women's spaces.

Her opinion is largely contested in New Zealand, with a counter-protest to her March event organised in support of transgender people attracting a much larger crowd. Police said there were roughly 200 people at the Let Women Speak event in March and 2000 to 3000 plus Rainbow Community supporters.
