A person has died after a house fire at a property in Foxton on Wednesday morning.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) told Newshub emergency services were called to the blaze on Reeve Street in Foxton at 4:33am.
A police spokesperson said a person was found in a critical condition when emergency services arrived.
Emergency services commenced CPR immediately but the person was pronounced dead a short time later.
"A scene guard is in place, and enquiries are ongoing," the spokesperson said.
FENZ said they responded with two crews to the small fire.
Firefighters are still at the scene and police and a specialist fire team are investigating.
