The woman who died during a "tragic incident" in the west Auckland suburb of Te Atatū on Monday has been named.
Police confirmed on Tuesday Te Atatū woman Nazia Hai, 27, was the victim who died in hospital after being found at a Gloria Ave address with critical injuries.
Hai's family has been notified and "our thoughts are with them during this tragic time", police said.
Det Insp Aaron Proctor, of Waitematā, said the victim and the alleged offender - who was on Tuesday charged with murder - were known to each other.
The man, 29, was due to appear in the Waitakāre District Court on Wednesday.
"This is a tragic incident and we are ensuring there is support in place for those closest to the victim," Det Insp Proctor said in a statement.
"We know this will have been a shock to the community, however we would like to reassure them this appears to be an isolated incident."
Proctor said a post-mortem had been completed and investigations were continuing at the Gloria Ave address.
A police presence would likely remain in the area until Wednesday while the scene examination continued, he said.
"As this matter is now before the court, we are limited in providing further comment."
