A van filled with baked goods was robbed in Auckland following a spate of robberies over the weekend.
The Daily Bread delivery van, a popular Auckland bakery chain, was parked on a street in St Heliers on Sunday morning when the goods were stolen from the vehicle.
The bakery chain, which sells sourdough bread, pastries, cakes and deli items in six locations, is known for its reputation of having a vast selection of savoury and sweet treats.
Two boxes of pastries were taken from the unlocked van and Daily Bread's general manager Kieran Evans is "really confused why they only took the pastries".
"Food was taken which sucks for the business, but at the end of the day, people out there are hungry," he said.
He said the drivers of the van weren't there at the time so "there was no altercation".
"We've had that happen before but usually there's stuff that's in the front seat like personal belongings, so luckily it was nothing major," he said. "We're just really grateful."
"I don't think any of us are taking it too hard, and considering that it's food, we wouldn't say it's targeting."
"Police are not immediately aware of takeaway deliveries being targeted for crime," a police spokesperson told Newshub.
It comes as two people appeared in the Auckland District Court in relation to a spate of aggravated robberies in Auckland CBD between 1:30am and 1:50am on Saturday morning
"Police received four reports of robbery in which people had been assaulted, fortunately, none of them seriously," a police spokesperson said.
Police believe the incidents are isolated and those alleged to be responsible are now facing charges.
"We hope these quick arrests bring reassurance to the community."
