A video has gone viral of a family dog having a lucky escape after falling into a grave moments before the coffin was lowered at an Auckland funeral last week.
The funeral was briefly interrupted when a dog, Cochise, was let off the leash and became interested in the hole.
"Cochise got curious about the hole and slipped on the green matting and fell into the hole," owner Paulie told Yahoo News Australia.
"He was in there for a few minutes, while the priest gave his eulogy and he was barking the whole time."
The video shows Cochise at the bottom of the hole barking before a man jumps in and grabs the dog.
"Never knew you'd go in there before your dad," a woman says off-camera.
Thankfully, it was a happy ending, with the man grabbing Cochise and getting the dog out of the hole.
"Everyone found it highly amusing and it really lightened the mood of the funeral," Paulie said.
The video made its way on TikTok and has gone viral receiving over 600,000 views and 600 comments.
"Dog really said 'I'm done with this family too Dad, take me with you,'" one person commented on the video.
Another said: "Dog's in grave danger".
"Just Kiwis being Kiwis," another said.
