One person is dead after reports of a gyrocopter crash in Blenheim on Saturday.
A police spokesperson told Newshub they were alerted to a light aircraft crash at the Omaka Aerodrome, which happened shortly before 1:20pm.
Police later confirmed the sole occupant of the aircraft has died. Police will refer this incident to the Civil Aviation Authority.
A gyrocopter combines elements of both airplanes and helicopters. It has an unpowered rotor on top and an engine-powered propeller in the back to provide thrust.
