A police investigation is underway after an infant died in Lower Hutt on Sunday.
Police said they launched the investigation after an "unexplained death" in Hutt Valley.
The child was taken to Hutt Hospital at around 12.30pm in an unresponsive state. Tragically, they passed away a short time later.
A police spokesperson said an investigation team is working to establish the circumstances leading to the infant's death.
Correction: Police previously referred to the matter as a homicide inquiry, they have since corrected this to state the death is currently being treated as unexplained.
