AMBERLEY, NEW ZEALAND - APRIL 10: A police officer stops a car at a checkpoint on April 10, 2020 in Amberley, New Zealand. With New Zealand in lockdown due to COVID-19, police are setting up checkpoints across the country to ensure people on the roads are travelling for essential purposes only. The Easter long weekend is a popular time for New Zealanders to go on holiday, however current Level 4 restrictions in place due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic requires everyone to remain at the place of residence they were in as of midnight 25 March when New Zealand went into lockdown. A man has been arrested after allegedly shooting at a house in Ōpōtiki in what police have described as a "gang-related" incident.

It comes after a recent spate of gang-related shootings at properties and a vehicle in the eastern Bay of Plenty region.

Police say the 29-year-old man went to the Ōpōtiki property on Sunday and threatened the occupants with a firearm.

Later that evening, a vehicle was shot at and stolen before shots were fired at another home the following morning.

The man has since been arrested and is due to appear in the Whakatāne District Court tomorrow on firearms-related charges.

Two incidents also took place on Tuesday morning where shots were fired at residential properties.

No one was injured in the shootings, which were all "gang-related", Senior Sergeant Richard Miller said.

He said the incidents all involve gang members targeting each other.

"Those responsible for these incidents should be on notice that we have absolutely no tolerance for this kind of behaviour in our community," he stressed.

"This offending is mindless and incredibly dangerous, and it is a miracle nobody has been seriously injured or killed."
