The owners of a 24/7 south Auckland dairy were forced to defend their shop overnight after a group of people raided it.
Police were called to the SupaValue Supermarket on Dawson Rd in the suburb of Clover Park at 1:42am on Monday morning.
It's understood up to six people stormed the supermarket making off with several items. During the burglary, the owners tried to defend the store using a shopping basket.
The offenders fled the scene before police arrived but two teenagers were arrested shortly afterwards.
A 16-year-old was charged with burglary, aggravated assault and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle and will appear in Manukau Youth Court on Monday. A 13-year-old has been referred to Youth Aid Services.
Enquiries are ongoing to locate the others involved.
