Weather: What ex-Tropical Cyclone Lola is whipping up at the top of the North Island

The North Island has been battered with heavy rainfall, strong winds and high tides as ex-Tropical Cyclone Lola whips its way through the country.

Several houses, farms and roads have been flooded and a number of schools and businesses have been forced to close as a result of power cuts and severe weather.

Strong wind and heavy rain warnings remain in place for Northland, the Coromandel Peninsula, parts of Gisborne Tai Rāwhiti and Auckland.

Below are pictures showing the extent of the damage.
