A man has been arrested after several cars were damaged in a KFC drive-thru dispute in Auckland that turned violent.
A witness told Newshub a drunk man had been refused service at the KFC Panmure drive-thru window several times before members of the public intervened just before 9:30pm on Wednesday.
One witness said the incident was sparked over the man's request to use a coupon that staff wouldn't accept.
After being pulled out of his vehicle, the hungry patron then got back in his car and rammed others around him, according to the witness.
A police spokesperson said a 35-year-old man was arrested after a report of a serious assault.
The spokesperson said the man, who was "possibly under the influence of alcohol", had abused KFC staff on two separate occasions.
"He has returned to the premises a third time and crashed his vehicle into a customer's vehicle in the car park, before verbally abusing staff again," the spokesperson said.
Police said the man suffered a minor injury during the crash and was treated by ambulance staff before being taken to hospital.
No one else was injured and police are considering charges against the 35-year-old man.
At least three vehicles were left wrecked in the carpark.
Restaurant Brands told Newshub its grateful no staff were injured during the incident.
"We are providing them with the necessary support. The matter is now with the police," a spokesperson for Restaurant Brands said.
Hato Hone St John told Newshub it responded with an ambulance, rapid response unit and an operations manager to the scene.
"Our ambulance officers treated and transported one patient in a moderate condition to Middlemore Hospital," a spokesperson said.
