A Dunedin school has come out of lockdown after it received a threat on Tuesday morning that prompted an armed police response.
A police spokesperson said Bayfield High School received a threat by email at 8:45am and went into lockdown as a precaution.
After almost two hours, police confirmed to Newshub the school is out of lockdown and "nothing of concern" was found.
"Some police staff will remain in the area this morning to provide reassurance to the school and local community," the spokesperson said.
It comes after a Newshub reporter said armed police were at the scene and there was "quite a lot of activity".
The school posted on Facebook earlier confirming the lockdown and that teachers and students were safe.
"This post is to inform parents and caregivers that the school is currently in lockdown. We ask parents and caregivers to please not come to the school site. All students are currently safe and we will update you with information as soon as possible," the school said.
A Bayfield Student told Stuff they tried to get into school on Tuesday morning as they had exams coming up, but weren't able to, and was told to go home.
