A massive house fire at a rural address in Wellington has left nothing but a pile of smouldering fragments.
The four-bedroom, two-bathroom property in Wainuiomata's Coast Road was seen in clouds of smoke, with multiple firefighters working to put out the blaze.
Brick walls and corrugated roofing are just some of the material left in what is now a black, smouldering pile.
Crews were alerted to the fire at 1:17pm and soon received multiple calls to the address from around the area, Fire and Emergency (FENZ) said in a statement.
"We had one call from the address, but I don't believe there were anymore from there," a FENZ spokesperson said.
Crews from Wainuiomata and a tanker from Wellington were sent in to assist with the fire.
"Upon arrival, the house was well ablaze, and a call went out for more resources by transmitting a second alarm," they said.
Further resources were then sent to help control the blaze from Lower Hutt areas.
There was a total of six firefighting appliances, five support or specialised fire vehicles and three rural crews that helped put the fire out.
The fire was contained at 2:50pm, at which stage crews were engaging in overhaul by checking for hotspots and turning over materials.
Despite a St John ambulance being sent to the scene due to the second alarm being raised, there is no indication of any injuries.
Fire investigators will attend the scene tomorrow to ascertain the cause.
