Two people have been arrested after a member of the Head Hunter's gang was shot dead in an Auckland park earlier this year.
A homicide investigation was launched in August after Charles Anthony Pongi, 32, was shot at Taurima Reserve in Point England and later died at Auckland Hospital. Police later launched a homicide investigation.
It's alleged Pongi was shot when more than 70 gang members from the Head Hunters, Rebel MCs and associates converged on the park on August 5 for a pre-planned brawl.
On Wednesday morning, detectives, supported by the Armed Offenders Squad, executed five search warrants across Auckland.
Detective Inspector Glenn Baldwin of Auckland City said two men were located and taken into custody without incident.
A 24-year-old man from Mount Albert has been charged with murder, assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The second man, a 26-year-old from Weymouth, has been charged with discharging a firearm with intent to intimidate and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Both men are due to appear in the Auckland District Court on Wednesday and Det Insp Baldwin said the investigation remains ongoing.
"Police would like to thank the Pt England community for their patience and their support while we have been making enquiries into this incident," he said.
"The Operation Pastel team remains committed to holding further individuals to account."
